The Really Fun Part!kids at loch ken

As we've said in other parts of this website the Five Castles Regatta is about having fun! Well the other part is about getting kids out on the water and enjoying it.

Whilst in the main the team running the racing comes from all over the sailing fraternity in Dumfries & Galloway, Richards team at The Galloway Activity Centre are the ones who work tirelessly to ensure those of the young people who are at the Five Castles Regatta to see what they think of having fun on water, are fully occupied.

The activities include canoeing, raft building and of course some sailing. Last year in 2010 the 'taster fleet' almost out numbered the racers! It is our belief that once you get these young people to understand just how much there is to do around and on water and just how much fun they can have doing it they will be hooked for life. We definitely see young people coming back to race the next season.

Of course the team at Galloway Activity Centre are professional instructors as well as experts in fun. So those on the 'taster day' not only have fun but they learn about the activities they try. They certainly learn the basics of safety in and around water. What an absolutely fabulous place to do that learning.

Loch Ken is one of the most picturesque Lochs in Scotland it's an area of great natural beauty set in the Glenkens, one of the most scenic and unspoilt parts of Galloway. Loch Ken has the designation of a Regional Scenic Area and in part is an Environmentally Sensitive Area (E.S.A.).

After the day on the water is done for racers and tasters the team at the activity centre haven't finished entertaining yet! They put on a barbecue for a nominal sum and those that want it can purchase a turn on the laser quest. That all goes to top off what is an absolutely fantastic day.
